Afternoon Lecture Series

May 10—Program begins at 2:30; sherry at 2:00. Following the celebration of May birthdays, our speaker will be David Ambler, Vice Chancellor Emeritus. He will speak on “The Kent State Tragedy: Legal Issues and Lessons Learned.”


Card and Game Theory

May 15—Film at 2:00, coffee at 1:45, in the Paul Adam Lounge. We will see the hilarious Marx Brothers film A Night at the Opera with the ever reliable Margaret Dumont.  This movie should be of particluar interest to all of the opera goers among us.

May 7—3:30.  Topic: "The Kansas Tax Structure and the Case for Modernization," with April Holman of Kansas Action for Children.


Drama Study Group

May 11—1:30 in the Music Room.  With playwright J. B. Priestley showing the way with Act III of his Time and the Conways, Drama Study Group follows the troubled Conway family of Act II back some twenty years in time,  from the  strained depression-era days of the late 1930s, to the sunny, confident—and harmonious—life we had watched it enjoy in Act I in the course of Britain's newly peaceful post-World War I year of 1919. Copies of the play will be available at Wednesday Coffee.

Metropolitan Opera Radio

The last Met Radio broadcast is on May 5, but we will have one additional program. The program which we could not hear on January 13 due to the ice storm on that date will be replayed on May 12 (thanks to an opportune off-the-net recording). Both programs will be played at the home of Vic and Mary Wallace, 1509 Massachusetts St. Parking is avalable in the church lot next door. Jim Seaver comes with his expert knowledge, and with librettos. Snacks are served too.

May 12—12:30. The First Emperor, Tan Dun. (This was a world premier broadcast of the brand new opera commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera.
