Afternoon Lecture Series

      May 8—Program at 2:30, sherry at 2:00, in the Summerfield Room. Following the celebration of April birthdays, Kathy Mulinazzi, Director of Small World, will speak on “Celebrating Forty Years of Small World.”  Small World is an organization for international women who are living in Lawrence and want to learn English.  Many of the women are wives of University of Kansas students. 

 

Card and Game Theory

      May 15—1:30 in the Paul Adam Lounge. The usual games of bridge and scrabble will be played. A sign-up sheet is available at the Wednesday Coffee, or call Ruth Ann Culvahouse, 840-0626.

 

Cinema Studies

      May 20—Film at 2:00, coffee at 1:45, in the Paul Adam Lounge. Cinema Studies will show the film The Reckless Moment. This film stars Joan Bennett and James Mason and was the last film in the United States directed by the Viennese Max Ophuls. This is also the first film in which Joan Bennett played a mature maternal role.  Moreover, this is perhaps one of the first Hollywood films which could be called "film noir." As always, everyone is welcome.

Domestic Public Policy Study

      May 5—3:30 in the All American room. April Holman of Kansas Action for Children will discuss "Kansas Tax Modernization."

 

Drama Study Group

      May 9—1:30 in the music room.  We will complete the reading of Shakespeare's Hamlet and continue with a (pun intended!) post mortem discussion of the play and of our reading of it, and finally (as time permits) by consideration of vehicles for future reading.

 

Foreign Policy Study
