Action
Legislation, campaigns, and projects we're watching.
- Holcomb Coal Plants
- We weren't too excited about two 700 megawatt power plants being erected in our state and polluting our waterways and air, especially when such . Environs petitioned, wrote letters, testified, called in protest of the plants. Luckily our actions paid off, and the was rejected over carbon dioxide emissions, a first for the US. However, the battle isn't over yet.
- LEED Certification
- Studie Red Corn, Environs Alum, wrote and got passed with Environs support, a Student Senate Bill that would require all Senate-funded buildings to be built to LEED Platinum standards. We'll be keeping an eye on this to make sure it goes through.
- Renewable Energy Fund
- This is another Studie-drafted piece of legislation (he's good at these things). Environs successfully advocated for a Student Senate referendum that would create a renewable energy fund so that the University could reduce it's reliance on polluting, conventional energy. We'll be watching this one as well.
