Writing Competitions:

  • AIPLA Fellows Award - To be eligible for consideration, the article must have been written solely by a current AIPLA Student member in full time attendance at a law school (day or evening) for at least one semester or equivalent during the term of the completion. Judges will consider the merit of the article as a contribution to the knowledge respecting intellectual property and the extent to which it relates to the assigned topic and displays original and creative thought or information not previously written or published by the author.

  • AIPLA Quarterly Journal Publication Staff Competition - The AIPLA Quarterly Journal selects its Publication Staff through a competition held each year in the spring. Students who have two full academic years remaining in an ABA-accredited law school, e.g. first-year full-time J.D. candidates or second-year part-time J.D. candidates, are eligible to compete. The Publication Staff's responsibilities are similar to that of members on other student-run journals and are coordinated by several student editors, selected each year from among the first-year Publication Staff.

  • ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Intellectual Property Law - Each year the American Bar Association's Section of Intellectual Property Law and The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc., invite law schools around the country to participate in the annual ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Intellectual Property Law. The intent of the project is to honor superior academic performance and to encourage student interest in the field of intellectual property law.

  • Foley & Lardner LLP IP Writing Competition - Foley & Lardner LLP is on the forefront of intellectual property law, and actively committed to promoting scholarly research and writing. We are proud to sponsor the Eighth Annual Intellectual Property Writing Competition with prizes totaling $15,000 for papers addressing intellectual property topics, such as patents, copyrights, domain names, trademarks, computer law, and trade secret law.

  • Robert C. Watson Award - To be presented at the AIPLA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, the Watson Award of $2,000 is awarded to the author of best article on a subject relating to the protection of intellectual property written or published that year.
