Join KanBikeWalk for Advocacy Day on Feb. 4th

Posted January 20, 2009 @ 1:57 pm - Filed under: Advocacy

Capitol in TopekaKanBikeWalk’s first Advocacy Day is scheduled for February 4th, 2009 at the state capitol in Topeka, Kansas.

Please join us as we meet with state-level elected officials to ask for their help in creating a more bikeable and walkable Kansas. When you speak personally with your own elected officials and they hear you talk about your passion for these issues, it can make a tremendously positive impression.

Our elected officials all know that someone, somewhere supports better bicycling and walking. But they usually think in the back of their mind that it’s someone somewhere else — on the other side of the state, or in a big city, or a small city, or maybe people who live in pleasant rural areas.

So when they meet you and make that personal connection with someone from their hometown, it really changes things.

We will make personal visits to Kansas legislators and their staff in the capitol. These personal visits are by far the most productive way for us to build support for bicycling and walking issues in our state. KanBikeWalk will provide printed materials you can use as a guide when talking, and can leave with them for later review.

If you’re unable to attend Advocacy Day in person, you can still help! Emailing or calling your legislators can also be a very effective way to make your voice heard. (If you’re not sure who represents you, you can use the Find Your Legislator app to check.)

If you’re interested in helping out, please contact KanBikeWalk president Gina Poertner at gksport@gmail.com or 620-342-2477.

4th Annual NonProfit Job Fair
Saturday, April 4, 2009
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Kauffman Conference Center
4801 Rockhill Road, Kansas City MO
Greetings!
Nonprofit agencies face an on-going challenge as they compete with the private sector to attract and hire qualified employees. In recognition of this fact, Cornerstones of Care and NonProfit Connect (formerly Kansas City Council on Philanthropy) are co-presenting the 4th Annual NonProfit Job Fair.
Registration:
http://www.cornerstonesofcare.org/PDF%20Files/Job%20Fair%20Registration%20Form%202009.pdf

Location: Following last year's success, the 2009 Job Fair will remain at the Kauffman Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road, Kansas City MO. Driving directions to the Kauffman can be found at their website - www.kauffman.org/about-foundation/directions-to-foundation.aspx

Display Setup and Loading/Unloading: If needed, displays can be unloaded at the doors from 8 - 9:30 a.m. before parking in regular parking spaces.

Parking: Kauffman has two parking lots available.

Booth Setup: Setup is from 8-10 a.m. Each vendor will have one 6 ft. table, 2 chairs and a name plate. Bring whatever materials you wish to use in your display. There are no electrical outlets available, so please charge your computer batteries.

We're growing this year and have reserved spaces for 70 participating vendors. Name plates will designate vendor tables in alphabetical order. At previous fairs, applicants were unable to locate their desired agency without going to every table. This is a significant change. If your agency participated in the past, this year your table will be pre-assigned.

Due to the overwhelming response (more than 500 job seekers in 2008) and growth of this event, please bring sufficient brochures, handouts, business cards, etc. Because this event is open to the public, we do not have an approximate number of potential attendees to guide you on the number of materials to bring.

Registration Table: Please check in at the registration table located at the entrance to Kauffman. At that time, you will receive your 2 lunch vouchers. We will be asking for email addresses at the registration table in order to update/maintain our vendor listing as well as to send an evaluation survey. We value your comments and suggestions and will use your feedback for the success of future fairs. Your business card with contact information may speed up the check-in process.

Food: A hospitality room will be available from 8 a.m. to early afternoon. Morning beverages will be available prior to lunch. Lunch will be provided to 2 representatives per vendor, and food vouchers will be distributed at the registration table at the time of check-in. Representatives must present the vouchers in order to receive lunch in the hospitality room. Please alternate lunch times with your co-representative so your booth will remain open at all times. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know in advance so we can try to accommodate you.

Contact Deb Hammack at deborah.hammack@cornerstonesofcare.org for additional information.

Sincerely,

Thom McNamara
