The
2006 ASCE Mid-Continent Regional Conference was held April 27-29 at the
University of Missouri in Columbia. This year, KU's first ever entry
into the Geo-Challenge competition took home first place honors. The
team built a retaining wall out of paper, which was load tested with
sand. The Jayhawk entry won the competition, followed by Oklahoma in
second and K-State in third. Team members were Nicole Carroll, Joe
Presswood, Daniel Schrant, and Scott Bernhardt. The team captain was
John Mutiso and faculty sponsor was Dr. Robert Parsons. The KU
Department of Civil Engineering also competed in concrete canoe, steel
bridge, and concrete bowling. The 2007 ASCE Mid-Continent Regional will
be held in Lawrence next spring.
