What to Bring? |
Hopefully this list will help you figure out what you need to bring to your next competition. Men Black socks Belt(s) - big shiny buckles are good If you're wearing a tux, check that you have shirt, pants, bowtie, vest/cummerbund, and jacket. Pant(s) - clean and without wrinkles Shirt(s) - clean and without wrinkles, good to have extras Vest(s) - black or another solid color that matches the tie is best Hair spray - shiny hair is mandatory Dance shoes - don't forget your shoes! If you wear any make-up, see below. Women Ballroom dress - long flowy skirt/dress Latin dress (or outfit) - solid colors, knees should be visible Sheer to the waist pantyhose Dance trunks - you don't want to reveal your underwear during spins Dance shoes - don't forget your shoes! Jewelry - shiny things are good Make-up Foundation Blush Face powder Lipstick - a bright color Eyeliner Eye shadow Mascara Nail polish If you are wearing fake nails: nail glue Hair Bobby pins- your hair has to be put up Hairspray Gel Hairbrush Accessories Towel - to wipe off sweat Safety pins - always come in handy Duct tape - tape your shoes if floor is too slippery Breath mints - a generally good idea for dancers Pen & paper - to write down all the awards you are going to win to get a new friends phone number Water bottle - might come in handy Snacks - that wont dirty your clothes or your hands Small bag to carry it all on the day of comp Remaining clothes Normal clothes for a trip You will want comfy driving clothes You will want clothes to just hang out in - like to wear in the morning on the way to the comp Some sort of clothes to sleep in. There is no way to tell how many people are going to be in the same room with you. They might be of opposite sex. Sleeping Supplies Blanket / sleeping bag Pillow Alarm clock - It is nice to have on your own Bathroom supplies Towel for showering - you might be in a dorm or other place that might not supply everybody with a towel. Soap/Shampoo - again might not be supplied for you Usual travel bathroom supplies (toothbrush etc.) Driving supplies CDs/MP3 Players - Driving CDs are a good thing (midwest has some lousy radio stations) Money - Probably go out to dinner after the comp, and you can probably count on stops during the drive for a quick bite. Also, you may need to arrange to help pay for gas. Food - food for the road if you want to bring it. Credit Card AAA Card License Insurance and Registration Misc Hand cream - this sounds silly but if you put it on your legs it keeps your dress from sticking to you Baby powder Aspirin is always a good idea Something to wash your face off with at the end of the day especially if you are leaving right after the comp Safety pins - you never know what may happen Button down shirt for the morning of the comp - you don't want to ruin your hair after you spent so much time putting it up.
