What
is KUSSHA?
The
KU Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (KUSSHA) is a social,
educational, and fundraising organization for undergraduate speech-language-hearing
majors and graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology.
KUSSHA is a chapter of NSSLHA, the National Student Speech-Language
Hearing Association. KUSSHA events and activities are organized
by a yearly-elected executive board, which has monthly planning
meetings that are open to all members.
Why
Should You Join KUSSHA?
KUSSHA provides opportunities for you to learn more about human
communication disorders and become better acquainted with other
speech-language pathology and audiology students. Instructors from
KU's Speech-Language-Hearing Department regularly participate in
KUSSHA activities and mixers. Informational meetings help prepare
you for decisions about your professional career, including graduate
school options. KUSSHA members have fun while volunteering as a
group throughout the year and raising money for the Schiefelbusch
Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic.
Annual Dues:
Annual dues are $5.00.(make checks payble to KUSSHA).
To request a membership form, stop by the KUSSHA office in 3001
Dole or you may send an e-mail
to KUSSHA. You can also find an application here. Completed membership applications should be returned
to a KUSSHA executive board officer, who will provide a membership
folder.
Educational
Events:
KUSSHA organizes monthly events including:
- Graduate
school informational meeting
- Graduate School Prep Night
- Annual Conference for KSHA members on Speech-Language-Hearing topics.
- Stop Day Tour at KU Med Center
- Meet the Professionals.
Fundraising:
KUSSHA members participate in fundraising activities throughout
the year to help purchase equipment and supplies for the Schiefelbusch
Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic on the Lawrence campus. Members raise
money through a variety of activities.
Social Events:
Other
Events:
KUSSHA assists with special events associated with the Schiefelbusch
Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic and provides members volunteer opportunties
through semester service projects.
Staying
Informed:
We know that students are busy people. To help keep members informed,
KUSSHA sends out email event notices, distributes fliers in SPLH
classes, posts announcements on
the bulletin board outside of the Clinic office, and has a Web site.
So even if you can't make the events and activities, you can still
be kept up-to-date on all of KUSSHA's happenings. Also, more things are being planned this year, so we will update the sight and send out emails for new events!
