MEETING ON WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 22ND (POSTED FEBRUARY 28TH)
Don't worry if you weren't there because there were only about 5 of us there and the meeting was very short. Didn't miss much.
The park event will be on April 23 from 1-5.
We are doing a poster campaign while tabling. Email Carlos if you're interested in forming any sort of poster dealing with UNICEF's monthly issue.
Also, make sure you go to our facebook group and join if you haven't already because we'll be voting on a movie to present to SUA to possibly show in Woodruff Auditorium.
The International Studies group is putting on a dinner called A Night of 1,000 Dinners to raise awareness about different issues (ie. minefields) and we will see how we can help them.
I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
Happy Fat Tuesday...
Compiled by Secretary Lara Holley

MEETING ON WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 8TH
Hey everyone! I hope that you all are having a great week! Last night's meeting was pretty short. Here's what was covered:
Every month, UNICEF has a theme on which it focuses for the month. The month of February is a month dedicated to human rights and how they impact the lives of children worldwide. A valuable source for human rights information is Human Rights Watch (www.hrw.org).
Jon has been diligently working on ways to get KU UNICEF involved in the community working with children. There are numerous opportunities locally to help tutor and mentor kids in need--if interested, let him know! Also, Big Brothers and Big Sisters will be having a basketball tournament coming up, and is in need of a lot of help with that. Details are still sketchy, but we should know more within the next few weeks!
Jomana had an amazing proposal for a KU UNICEF sponsored event for local kids that could be held in one of the beautiful parks in Lawrence! Brainstorming for this includes the possibilities of snacks, crafts, games (with international themes), a play put on by the members, a puppet show, and a pledge banner to hang in the local library to remind the kids of their commitment to the world. The hope is to have this event take place on the last weekend in April!
Also, there will be a thank-you note writing session coming up in the next couple of weeks so that we can thank all of the really great businesses that donated to the International Dinner. We are taking up a collection of spare change from members to help pay for the postage of these cards, so if you have any spare change, please bring it with you to the next meeting!
And speaking of the next meeting, it will be held on Wednesday, February 15 at 6pm in Alcove D of the Kansas Union! I hope to see you there!
Much love! Lennea Carty KU UNICEF Vice President
FIRST SPRING 2006 MEETING ON WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 1ST
Tonight was the first meeting of the new semester!
Welcome back, I hope that everyone had a restful break.
So far we have raised somewhere around $2000.
The bracelets for the _Invisible Children_ documentary are now available on visiblechildren.com This is so that you will remember their struggle throughout your day to day life. If you want more info on the documentary itself, you can always find that at invisiblechildren.com
We discussed starting a UNICEF online open forum and because facebook is all the rage, we thought we'd stick with pop-culture. So if you have anything to post to the group, you can put up a message in the "KU UNICEF" group. Make sure you're added to this so that you can keep up to date without having a flooded email box.
The Constitution adendum will begin next week.
This semester we would like to get involved with local children's organizations. Apparently CCO needs volunteers in the public schools for tutoring. This would be great in opening up contacts for Trick or Treat next year.
Be thinking of movie ideas, as SUA would really like to show another one because of our success with _Invisible Children_ - so far we have come up with "Promises" "Turtles can Fly" and "Hotel Rwanda"
The Lawrence Public Library would like UNICEF to write and perform a puppet show- if you're interested in helping out let me know.
We also signed up for office hours, which I will be emailing to Sara, so you'll see that soon.
Have a great week. See you next Wednesday at 6!
