MONDAY OCTOBER 30TH

Hello everyone! Happy Halloween!

Here are the minutes from last night's meeting:
First up, we are meeting tonight at 6:30pm 4th fl lobby of KS Union to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF at the scholarship halls. It should be about 45 in. to 1hr. We will be in groups. Also, the Trick-or-Treat boxes you have taken around campus and town are due no later thatn Nov. 20!

Next, we talked about the International Dinner. Tickes will cost $5 in advance and $7 at the door. We will be printing tickets, flyers, and posters in the near future. We may also have a speaker who is an expert on the Democratic Republic of Congo and tell us further about what is going on there. It will be a short "lecture." The speaker is a professor here at KU in the Anthropology department and has taught in various countries.

Lennea's interview on KPR last week went well.

One last thing. Here are two things for KU 4 Uganda coming up. The first is a concert at Lawrence Free Methodist Church on 31st and Lawrence Ave. It is a big brick church, it's hard to miss. The concert features the African Children's Choir which is composed of children from Uganda. The event is free.
THe other thing is that Hillel is looking for a few volunteers to help with a buffet style dinner called Rock Chalk Shabat. They need help from 6:15-8:45pm this Fri. Nov. 3. Some of the money Hillel makes will be given to KU 4 Uganda!

That's it. Enjoy Halloween and the week. Hope to see you tonight!

MONDAY OCTOBER 23RD

Hi everyone. Here are the meeting minutes from tonight:

Lennea will be doing a live interview on KPR to talk about the Trick-or-Treat campaign for UNICEF. This will be a great promoter!! Speaking of Trick-or-Treat. For those who want to trick-or-treat for our campaign are welcome to do so on Oct. 31, Halloween night at 6:30pm. We will be meeting in the lobby on the 4th fl of the KS Union then will go to the scholarship halls for donations. We had success last year and it was fun. Feel free to dress up if you want to!

For the International Dinner, we will have print signs for advertising and will chalk. We also divided up into pairs and divided the businesses on Mass. street to ask for donations for the auction. The due date for everyone to talk to their designated businesses is Nov. 5. We will provide letters for you to take explaining about the event, etc. Can pick these up at the cubicle. Also, make sure when going to the businesses that you ask for the manager or the owner, depending on the business. If they are not there you may need to just leave the letter with someone else. Also, note that if a place is very busy like a restaurant then, come back a little later and talk to them. Someone will be sending an email about which businesses are on each block that you signed up for. Be nice and professional when you talk to these people and be nice if they say no. Usually we people have been nice to us if they are not able to make a donation. Some places have already reached their quota in making donations. Don't get too discouraged and try to enjoy it.

That's all we talked about. Have a great week and good luck with the businesses. Remember that you need to talk to your businesses by Nov. 5.

MONDAY OCTOBER 9TH

Hello Everyone! I hope all of you are enjoying the beginning of Fall Break!

Here are the minutes from this week's meeting:

People are still able to pick up the Trick or Treat boxes from the cubicle. Also there are more copies of letters and copies of a sheet that has information telling what each amount of money can buy for children. Please take the boxes everywhere. Give them to friends, take them to classes, work, your major department, etc. The more the better!
All boxes will need to be picked up by the second week of November.

KU 4 Uganda, FIGHT, ISA, and ECM will be co-sponsoring our International Dinner, Nov. 16 7:30pm First Presbyterian Church on Clinton Parkway. At next week's meeting we will be dividing downtown businesses and businesses on Iowa and elsewhere in Lawrence. People can go in groups of two or three and will need to take letters to the businesses telling them what we are doing, etc. Everyone will have until Nov. 1 to hit all the businesses for donations for the auction at the Dinner. Also, we are needing someone(s) to help design the flyer for the Dinner to publicize the event. If anyone wants to do this you can email us at ku.unicef@gmail.com

Another thing. We need to make sure we are keeping office hours, at least 10 hours each week to keep the cubicle. Make sure when you first come into the Student Involvement Center that you sign in and then also keep track of time in the cubicle. We have a great cubicle. There is a great view and in the evenings it is a quite place to study. If you come in in the evening, you can still count that as time and please do! We will also be keeping candy there as well.

One last note. There is benefit concert at the Jackpot Friday Oct. 13, 10pm-2am for Delta Force and KU 4 Uganda. It is sure to be a great time! Also, Delta Force is having a Pumpkin Patch on Oct. 23 probably from 10am-4pm at either Strong Hall or Stauffer-Flint. We are considering co-sponsoring because then we can bring our boxes for donations. Everyone has been invited to join Delta Force. They have meetings on Sundays at 7pm at the ECM.

Enjoy your break!

MONDAY OCTOBER 2ND

Hi everyone!
Here are the minutes from last night. Unfortunately, we did not very many people at all. We understand that it is a busy time of the semester with midterms and fall break right around the corner.

We talked again about the Trick or Treat Campaign. People can still pick up boxes in our cubicle. If you do make sure you write down your name and the numbers written on the boxes so we can keep track of them. Also, you can pick up a list of businesses and letters to disperse boxes around town. The more the better!!! The letter you can give to someone at the business and it explains what we are doing. Also, know too that you can go in pairs or more if you want. It's a lot to do for one person and it is boring too. Those of you who leave boxes at different places will need to bring those to our Nov. 6 meeting.

Also, the meeting after midterms/fall break we will be dividing up businesses to hit for donations to the International Dinner. Again, you can go in pairs, in fact it would be the best if you did so. We all will have two weeks to do this in. By Nov. 1 we should have gone to all the businesses on the list, etc. for donations. We will also provide letters for you to take with you that will explain everything.

I want to make two announcements on behalf of KU4Uganda. The president of the organization, Nathan Mack, came to the meeting last night and told us about two events coming up this month. The first is a film called Uganda Rising. It is at 7pm Woodruff Aud. KS Union. It will be about an hour and half long, so our meeting will pushed back until after the movie. It is a very touching film, one that everyone should go to! Also, There will be a GuluWalk Oct. 21-22. This walk is very important because it commerates all the children in Uganda who have to walk for miles all night long in the brush from their village to a big town to seek safety and some education. As many of you may know many children have been abducted from their homes and many made soldiers. This is why so many walk to towns for safety. Go to KU4Uganda's website www.ku.edu/~KU4U to find out more info. This is also a fundraising event. Please go if you can. At night and in the morning there will be food!

Good luck to you all on tests and papers this week and next!
