about us:

UNICEF

UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund) is one of the many organizations designed by the United Nations to address an issue of particular concern in the world.  It was created in 1946 to provide aid to children who were victims of World War II, and today serves children with over 7,000 volunteers in 157 countries worldwide.  It supports basic rights for children, education for girls, health care, proper home care, and several other ways to improve the lives of children everywhere.  For more info, check out www.unicef.org .

KU UNICEF

KU UNICEF was founded in 2001 as a member of the campus initiative, a branch of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.  We are a fully not-for-profit organization devoted to raising funds for the world’s children through various events throughout the year.  Every cent that we raise through such events goes directly to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, which then sends the money where it is needed most: to children in developing countries, in the form of immunizations, school supplies, food, clothing, and other basic necessities.  The KU chapter of UNICEF serves to inform the campus and the Lawrence community about UNICEF’s purpose, all the while raising awareness and funds for children in need.

The Campus Initiative is a network of UNICEF chapters on college campuses throughout the nation.  These groups communicate with one another, sharing ideas, goals, and encouragement for the various fundraising events that are occurring all the time.  Campus Initiative is a section of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, and all the proceeds raised by each campus organization are sent there to be allocated to the causes UNICEF supports.

United States Fund for UNICEF

U.S. Fund for UNICEF, based in New York City, was created in 1947, and has a large organizational network in cities throughout the USA.  It is one of the 37 country-based organizations that support UNICEF, providing millions of dollars to the various causes supported by UNICEF.  The U.S. Fund created the renowned “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” program to raise children’s awareness of the plight of other children around the world, and encourage them to get involved at an early age.
