Meet Miller

-excerpts from a brochure sent to new women in 1955

"The first year of her residence, each girl is asked to bring two tea towels for the hall. Items you'll want for your own use are dresser scarves, bath linen, shoebag, soap flakes, starch, and perhaps your favorite apron."

"To insure against possible untidiness, inspectors (also a shift) check the shifts at 7:30 am Monday through Friday, 12:30 pm on Saturday, and 9:30 am on Sunday. They'll post notes on the bulletin board each day to remind us if our shift isn't quite up to par."

"Just as in your room at home, you'll find neatness conducive to comfort and concentration! To help us remember to keep our rooms tidy, they are inspected at the regular times on Wednesday and Saturdays."

"Beds must be made on arising every day, and linens are changed once a week."

"Each semester we pay the University $18.75 for room rent and insurance."
