Welcome to Planning to Achieve Collegiate Excellence (PACE)!
KU's nationally-recognized Planning to Achieve Collegiate Excellence (PACE formerly known as PFCS) tutoring and mentoring program provides dedicated, energetic volunteers to work as tutors and mentors in the Lawrence school district. Tutors can assist in before-school and after-school programs, resource rooms, classrooms, and one-on-one tutoring. PACE mentors work with one student or a small group of students, providing help with homework and a positive role model to talk to and spend time with during the school day.
PACE is currently in its seventh year of service to USD 497 students, providing free tutoring
and mentoring services through hundreds of KU students. In the 2006-2007 school year alone,
our volunteers spent more than 1,500 hours in 19 partner schools, making KU the largest PACE program in the nation. With over 40 district employees as cooperating partners, KU's PACE program is definitely making an impact in its community!
PACE is a great
way for KU students to gain volunteer experience, give back to the Lawrence
community, and make a real difference in the life of a child. Volunteers
need just 30 minutes of free time a week to get involved.
