SAGE Executive Meeting Minutes

Present: Jennifer Floray-Balke, Kristin Bovaird-Abbo, Karla Knutson, Mindi McMann

1. SAGE Picnic

a. Will purchase the food/beverages/supplies for the picnic as a group on Sunday, August 15th at the 6th and Wakarusa Dillons.

b. Set up at 4:30

i. Kristin and Jennifer bringing Grills

ii. Karla, Kristin and Jennifer bringing coolers

c. Side dishes/Desserts from current students

d. Mindi will arrange transportation for Susan Thomas

2. Committees

a. Need to find two new students to serve as first year liaisons. Preferably one GTA and one non-GTA, who can solicit information and discern what first years want from SAGE.

b. Possible amendment regarding FSE committee for next year: Should we mandate that one Rhetoric/Composition person must sit on this committee? No decision reached officially.

c. Find out what exactly the Library Committee is/does, and whether Emily wants to sit on it this year. (she is taking her exam)

3. Orientation

a. Meet at 10:30 in Kristin, Karla and Jennifer’s Office

b. Headshots for Website will be taken to familiarize department with new students

c. Questionnaire for SAGE Advice

d. Open question and Answer session

4. First Meeting of the Semester

a. We should all email our schedules to Kristin to set up a time that works!

5. Goals

a. We should all think about goals in the next few weeks. Perhaps wait to get back surveys?

b. More social events? Secret Santas?

c. Revival of student colloquiums

d. Create detailed descriptions of committee responsibilities and commitments, so students know what is expected of them.

6. SAGE Questionnaire

a. We want students to note on questionnaire whether they are new students

b. How can we get them more active in SAGE and the department? Best meeting times for everyone

7. New Business

a. Getting new students involved! They do not necessarily have to serve on a committee, but how do we get them to meetings?
