Next Year's Officers

It is time to start thinking about next year's SAGE officers. All graduate students in English are encouraged to participate. Nominations will be discussed at the next meeting.

Book Sale

The SAGE book sale is scheduled for March 26-27 (Tuesday-Wednesday). We are still collecting books in the SAGE computer room. The sale will be held on Wescoe Beach-we are working on obtaining a permit for this to ensure that there won't be any problems. Volunteers will be needed to help set up on Tuesday morning.

Finances

SAGE has money in the treasury that must be spent if we don't want to lose it. The money can't be spent on items such as food or gas. If you have suggestions, please mention them. One idea was to spend the money on teaching resources, including books and journal subscriptions-recommendations are welcome.

Academics Anonymous

Due to limited response from faculty, we are thinking of opening up Academics Anonymous to student resources. This would be a fun, friendly setting for giving a short presentation on your research/ideas and getting feedback from other students. There are also a few faculty members who are interested in presenting this semester.

SAGE Advice

No schedules/deadlines have been announced yet. The idea of writing an article on graduate student participation in conferences this semester was suggested.

Creative Readings

The first (only?) creative reading for Spring was tentatively scheduled for April 6.

Officer Reports

FSE (see Lisa S. for more details)-

Portfolio grading systems received little interest but may become an option.

Looking into smaller versions of writing handbooks for students who didn't take 101 or 102.

Discussed writing-based final projects to bring the semester together.

Ideas for future meetings-SAGE members expressed concern about the current student/mentor evaluations and would like to evaluate and redesign the procedures.

Lecturers & Readers (See Matthew C for more details)-

Not much to report. Committee is trying to work within a limited budget.

Suggestions from SAGE members-Try to publicize talks in other departments to take advantage of the resources we already have rather than focusing so much on bringing people in.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is being planned for off-campus (probably at the Lawrence Pizza Company). Revenues from the book sale will be used to purchase pizza. Please R.S.V.P. (and be prepared to discuss next year's officers).
