SAGE Home > Minutes SAGE Meeting Minutes Parkes passed around pictures for name corrections, "captionizing," etc. These will be put on the Web site. Sommers asked new members to introduce themselves. Humphrey, who will be on the Graduate Committee, did so. Mark, new member of the Lecturers and Readers Committee, introduced herself as well. She reported that the committee has not yet met this semester, but that business last semester included work on several endowments at varying stages. Currently, the Committee has a significant level of funds. Mark explained that the Committee can fund visits by lecturers and readers but that some restrictions exist. Co-sponsorship with other departments or University entities, such as the Hall Center, is also a possibility. Wicktor, whose committee (Library Committee) has not met and who had been unable to attend previous meetings, asked that anyone with library-related concerns contact her directly, as she will contact the responsible party in the Libraries. Parkes noted, on the subject of the library, that some reserve problems seem to exist, so she encouraged anyone using e-reserves to verify that their materials are indeed available. Mark raised the issue of the Joyce Conference, to be held this summer, involving the Department and others. Commemorating the one-hundredth anniversary of Bloom Day, the conference will be held the weekend of 11-12 June. The conference would like co-sponsorship from SAGE, particularly in order to obtain free use of Union space. The conference organizers also are looking for assistance with the development of "packages" to offer to conference attendees, including such things as lodging and victuals for a potluck or carry-in meal. Interested parties should contact Mark at lalamark@ku.edu. Discussion of SAGE financial assistance was postponed in order to obtain more information, both about the conference's needs and about SAGE's financial health. Parkes turned attention to the SAGE auction, currently grounded due to the lack of letters for solicitation of auctionable items. Two basketball tickets and a computer printer, though, have been donated. St. Ledger will continue efforts at obtaining a letter of support and coordination from the Children's Miracle Network. The auction itself is now scheduled for 28-29 April. Sommers will lead the effort and would like assistance from interested parties (to form, apparently, some sort of ad-hoc committee). Sommers reported that the effort to sell unsold and unstolen books (from the book sale) is ongoing, but that sorters and a vehicle are needed. Harries, Klinker and St. Ledger volunteered to sort the books, with St. Ledger directing the effort. Humphrey will provide book transportation, coordinating the date and time with the sorters. Bovaird-Abbo discussed SAGE Advice. Particularly, she is concerned that electronic distribution results in lower readership. The next submission deadline is 20 February. Articles on graduate classes to be offered in the fall and teaching tips are welcome. Those interested in contributing should contact Bovaird-Abbo. St. Ledger reported that the FSE Committee will be working to select optional 101/102 texts. Anyone interested in having a text included on the list should contact her. Sommers, raising the issue of the oft-discussed first-floor lounge, asked that Humphrey contact Tom Lorenz about this, as Lorenz had been working to find space. Parkes, then, sought input for the next meeting date and time. After discussion, it was scheduled for Wednesday, 10 March, at 4:00 p.m. [N.B.: This has changed; see e-mail from Sommers.] At this, the meeting adjourned.
