Meeting Minutes
July 26, 2003

The meeting convened at 4:15 p.m. in Wescoe 1078; Joseph Sommers, Brian Harries, Mindi McMann and Aaron Profitt attended.

Sommers presented some ideas and information about the SAGE fair planned for the fall semester. To help attract business, SAGE might try to get participation from KU athletics -- perhaps from athletes themselves, new AD Perkins, new Coach Self. Ideas for events or booths include a talent show, a kissing booth and a dunk tank; live music is also being targeted. Perhaps chamber of commerce members may be persuaded to donate prizes for some events/booths. Planned admission is $1. One problem is the short time till this fair should take place; Harries suggested forming a committee in order to deal with the amount of work/planning needed in a relatively short time.

The SAGE lab will be receiving 2 new computers according to Prof. Elliott, Harries reported. Sommers stated that the lab has been painted also.

Mindi McMann reported that all new graduate students have been assigned to current and willing grad students, with the presumption and devout hope that all have been contacted. Sommers announced that SAGE representatives will be attending departmental orientation for new graduate students, giving a
quick presentation on SAGE and, it is hoped, drumming up interest in those SAGE positions reserved for new grad students.

On a related note, the SAGE picnic will be Saturday, 8/16. Sommers will grill, SAGE officers are to bring dishes (with edible contents, please!).

Profitt announced that SAGE-L is ready, including its configuration.  Officers will be added.

Sommers announced that the first SAGE meeting will be on 8/21 (Thursday) from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.

The meeting ended, at least as far as these minutes are concerned, when Profitt left at 5:00 p.m. for an appointment elsewhere.
