- Job Market / Campus Visit Workshop
This workshop, originally
scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th, will be rescheduled in the near
future!
This workshop will focus on how to prepare for the job market
and/or the campus visit. We will discuss what
grad students can learn from the recent job visits, as
well as any other advice that our participating panelists may have.
The participating professors are Katie Conrad, Giselle Anatol, Anna
Neill, and Deb Olin Unferth.
Please contact the members of the Professionalization Workshop (Andy Anderegg
and
Samantha Bishop Simmons) if you have any suggestions for future workshops for 2008-2009.

Conferences and
Networking
Tuesday, November 13th--Topics included deciding which
conferences to choose, making contacts, writing proposals for
conferences, and answering questions after presentations. Our
panelists included Professors Philip Barnard, Frank Farmer, and
Laura Mielke.

Monday, October 22nd--Issues
included selecting
committee members for exams, theses, and dissertations, and proper (and
effective) interaction with members of the committee. Our panelists included
Professors Byron Caminero-Santangelo, Amy Devitt, Dorice Elliott,
Richard Hardin, Joe Harrington, and Michael Johnson.

Academic Publishing
Wednesday, April 25th--Issues
covered included choosing appropriate
journals, searching for editing jobs, converting the dissertation into a
book, etc. Our panel consisted of Professor Iris
Smith Fischer, Professor Phil Wedge, Professor Geraldo de Sousa, and
Professor Mary Catherine Davidson.
