Panelists for this workshop will be Dr. Pat McQueeney, associatate professor of English at Johnson County Community College, and Jason Barrett-Fox, KU grad student in English, and instructor at the Kansas City Art Institute.

Dr. McQueeney and Mr. Barrett-Fox will be talking and taking questions about teaching at non-university institutions, covering topics such as:

  • What types of students one could be teaching
  • What one can do to prepare for a job like this
  • What the typical workload is like
  • What the application/interview process is like

Snacks will be provided

Monday, October 22, 2008--Issues included selecting committee members for exams, theses, and dissertations, and proper (and effective) interaction with members of the committee. Our panelists included Professors Byron Caminero-Santangelo, Amy Devitt, Dorice Elliott, Richard Hardin, Joe Harrington, and Michael Johnson.

  • Wednesday, April 25, 2008--Issues covered included choosing appropriate journals, searching for editing jobs, converting the dissertation into a book, etc.  Our panel consisted of Professor Iris Smith Fischer, Professor Phil Wedge, Professor Geraldo de Sousa, and Professor Mary Catherine Davidson.
