What I Love About Sellards
by Anonymous
When you walk down the hill from a stressful day of classes and see Sellard’s white pillars, you can’t help but crack a little smile. When you walk into the door you know that you are home with people that care about you; you are a family member at Sellards. No long lines to wait to eat dinner, you sit down with your family to eat a dinner that was cooked with love just for you. You know everyone in the house and everyone knows you. At Sellards it matters what’s going on in your life and it matters if you succeed. Sellards is a home away from home.

As an incoming freshman last fall, I did not really consider living in the Scholarship Halls very seriously. To be completely honest, I thought the people would be stuck-up, book worms with no life (how stupid, right?). However, after reassessing both my roommate and financial situation after first semester, I sucked it up, applied, was admitted, and made the move. I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but moving into Sellards Scholarship Hall has improved the campus life here at KU dramatically for me. I was nervous because I knew that the girls had already been living with each other for a semester. I expected that they would have little cliques formed within the house and not be welcoming to a new face; I even wondered if they would see me as an intruder of sorts. From the first day on, however, I was welcomed in with excitement and acceptance, and for that I am truly grateful. I didn't know that I would be moving into a place with a ready-made group of friends. Midnight kitchen parties, group Project Runway viewings, 'roomie outings', and all 'schol hall' social events have become a part of my life that I owe to Sellards, my new home.
