Who We Are:
Students of Liberty really just stands for common sense. Stop raising fees, start using green energy to save money, and make student senate a little more honest.
No New Fees
Student fees increase almost every semester. With the current fee rate, a four year student will pay over $3000 in student fees. This is a tax. KU Students, along with everyone else right now, need to save money. In an economic recession, it doesn't make sense to raise taxes, and it is just common sense to lower taxes. We want to help students by letting them keep more of their money in these hard economic times.
Green Energy
Almost everyone at KU can agree that green energy is a good idea, but we need to look at how we are going to do that. Recently it has been decided that the Campus Environmental Improvement fee will pay for wind credits to run Anschutz Library. This does not make us sustainable. This fee was put into place in order to fund capital improvements to help KU save money on energy, while going green. This is what that fee should do.
Transparency & Accountability
Student Senate has low voter turnout for a reason. Today, coalitions rarely have any kind of cohesive philosophy, nor can students see how senators vote. Because of this, senate elections have turned into popularity contests. We will implement use of the clickers that KU Students already paid for, in both senate and committees, and upload the voting records onto the Student Senate website. This will allow students and coalitions to see exactly how everyone votes, and make a much more educated vote because of it. KU students are smart, and want to vote, but they won't vote if they are shooting in the dark.
