The following members of the
executive board were present: Neal Anson, Shannon Banes, Nicole
Mohlman and Sara Wunder
Faculty advisor Dr. Greg Berg was also
present.
The following members of the
executive board were absent: Jillian Badger, Melanie Curtis, Emily
Faurot and Jennifer Huang
I.
Materials were received from the National office
A. Membership certificates from the Spring 2002 induction and Beta Beta
Beta keychains.

be given out at the next meeting

1) Will be
placed in the main KU biology office (room 2045 Haworth)

chapter activities

Set meeting dates for the Fall 2002 semester
A. Wednesday,
September 18 at

D. A calendar
will be made containing the meetings, and social
functions for Tri-Beta for the Fall 2002 semester
1) It will be available on the Tri-Beta
website as well as on a display in
III. Social/Service Ideas for Fall 2002 semester
A. Roe
Festival Run
1) 5K run or 1
mile walk for SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) in

B. Halloween
event at KU Natural History Museum
C. New T-shirt
design
1) Ask for ideas at next meeting,
September 18
2) Try to sell remaining T-shirts (will be
at Bio Store)
D. Pick up
course evaluations project from BSAP
1) Include detailed descriptions of each
course offered in the department
2) Try to get syllabi from professors for
each course
3) Attempt to make student evaluations of
courses available to others
E. Make a
“tips” sheet for students regarding undergraduate research positions
1) Include a list of professors that
usually have open spots, or those that are usually full
2) Possibly a brief abstract of their
research
IV. Goals/Ideas for future
meetings
A. Panel
discussions among members about current undergraduate research projects
B. Have Dr. Urbauer (new Honors Chair) give
talk on ways to get involved with undergraduate research
C. Have
graduate students as guest lecturers
D. Discuss not
only research but also career options
E. Have a practice session for any members
who will be giving oral and/or poster presentations at the national convention
in the spring
V. Recruitment
A.
Recruitment of new members and reviewing of applications will occur in the
early spring 2003 semester
1) Also, new executive board members will
be elected from existing members in the spring
2) New members and the newly elected
executive board will be inducted into the society during the Induction Ceremony
in late spring 2003
