Tri-Beta Minutes

The following members were present: Lori Amey, Neal Anson, Jillian Badger, Cecilia Compton, Melanie Curtis, Emily Faurot, Jessica Gnau, Jennifer Huang, Cheri Kliewer, Chelsea Miller, Nicole Mohlman, Christine Murray, Rachel Regier, and Kari Ronningen.

Faculty advisor Dr. Greg Burg was also present.

 

I. Membership Certificates

      A.  National membership certificates and cards were passed out to those inducted in the Spring 2002.

II. Review of Previous Activities

      A.  We had a good showing at Roe Fest on Saturday October 5 in Roeland Park and helped raise over 20,000 dollars for SMA research.  Thanks to those members that helped out.

      B.   Faculty mixer

            1) Neal passed out information and talked to interested students about TriBeta

III. Upcoming Activities

A.  Jubilee Café

      1) We will be volunteering at Jubilee Café on Friday October 25

      2) Time: 6am – 9am (Come and go as you like)

      3) If you have any questions contact Miguel Ramirez (VP of Service)

B.   Peer Advising

            1) Interested members will be helping KUUB and Dr. Burg advise sophomore biology students.

            2) A training session will be required.  If you have already notified Neal that you are interested in getting involved, then Dr. Burg will be sending you an email with the training session dates and times.

      C.  District Convention

            1) Be thinking about whether or not you want to attend the district convention.

            2) It will be held in Nebraska this year sometime in April.

            3) More information will be available at a later date

IV. Chords for Graduating Members

A. December 2002 Graduates

1) Make sure you email Neal Anson if you will be graduating in December and are interesting in getting honor chords.

2) They will cost approximately five dollars

3) Checks can be made payable to TriBeta National Office

V.  Presentations

      A.  Dr. Chris Haufler and Dr. Jeff Urbauer spoke about getting involved in research and the honors program
