Executive Meeting Minutes

The
following executive members were present: Neal Anson, Shannon Banes,
Cecilia Compton, Melanie Curtis, Jennifer Huang, Nicole Mohlman, and Miguel
Ramirez
I.
Funds from Senate
A. Funding
for Tri-Beta was rejected by Student Senate.
1) Senate requires organizations to
open membership AND executive board positions to any student at KU in order to
be considered for funding.
B. Dr.
Haufler and KUUB will try to fund some Tri-Beta activities
II.
Initiation 2003
A. Sunday
May 4, 2003
B. A
dinner will be included after the initiation ceremony
1) Depending on the funding
situation, the dinner will either be catered or a potluck.
a) In the event of a
potluck, there will be a sign up sheet for all members, initiates and exec
board members at the meeting prior to initiation.
2) Location suggestions include the
Alumni Center, the Kansas Union and the Alpha Delta Pi sorority house.
III. District Convention
A. April 11-13 2003
1) Location: Eastern Nebraska
2) Talk to Neal if you are interested in
going and if you would like to give a research presentation.
3) More information will be given at a
later date
IV. Community Service
A. Salvation Army
1) Miguel will be talking to his
contact and more information will be given at the November 14th
meeting
B. A
field day raising money for research
1) This event would contain
activities such as three-legged race and others
2) $5 per
person admission fee
3) Could possibly hold event at
Robinson
V. Meetings for Spring Semester
A. Would like
to have one meeting each month possibly on a Tuesday at 7pm
1)
We need to check when the organic tests will be so that meetings will not
conflict.
B. First meeting of the spring semester will be on
Tuesday January 28, 2003 at 7pm
1)

VI. Social Activities- Jennifer
A. T-shirts
1) “There’s no place like home” with
picture of Haworth
2) Sky Blue shirt
3) Will need to pre pay for shirts
and get sizes
B. Party
Bus Pub Crawl Post MCAT
1) Will advertise in MCAT classes
VII. Bylaws
A. Changes need to be made to the bylaws
to eliminate the option of paying a $5 chapter fee for membership.
B. Also,
we feel that graduate student members and honorary members should not have to
pay a fee for membership.
1) These changes will be voted on at
the next meeting (Nov 14)
C. The revisions will read as follows:
Article III, Section 1 – Members
shall pay national dues prior to initiation
Article
III, Section 2 – Regular members will be required to contribute dues to the
National society by paying a one-time fee of $35.00.
Article
III, Section 3 – Associate members will also be required to contribute dues to
the National society by paying a one-time fee of $25.00.
VIII. Honorary Members
A. We
will hold nominations and voting on honorary members at the Nov. 14th
meeting
IX. Recruitment
A. Nicole
will make transparencies promoting Tri-Beta membership and give to all Biology
professors in the beginning of the Spring Semester
X. Next executive meeting
A. Sunday, January 26, 2003
B. Time: 6 pm

1) We will be planning all the
meetings and activities for the spring semester!
