            Dr. Val Smith

Studying how nutrients affect various disease agents, including HIV and

                        cancer

Hopes to apply this knowledge to create a better IV solution for hospitals

By finding out how different pathogens/disease react to certain nutrients,

he hopes to find various solutions that when given intravenously create the

best nutrition for the patient, but the worst for the pathogens

Dr. Smith is looking to add undergraduate students as research assistants

in his laboratory, and will be using this as an opportunity to “scout” for

                        them
