1) What is Ultimate? Ultimate is an exciting, fast-paced team sport that combines elements of football, soccer, and basketball—but it's played with a disc. Regulation games are 7-on-7 and a team scores by catching the disc in their designated endzone. A team has won once it reaches a certain number of points that is predetermined by tournament directors or team captains. Most games go til 13 or 15. You can read more about the game and its basic rules here: http://www.upa.org/ultimate/rules/10simplerules 2) Can I join even if I have never played before? Absolutely! Many of our team members join with no or very little experience. We have women of all skill levels aboard and we all have a common goal: to learn more about ultimate and to have fun! 3) Who do you play against? As a club sport, we get the opportunity to travel across the Midwest and the country to play against other college and club teams. We are not an intramural sport. Intramural sports are the sports where one plays against other members of the University. 4) Does it cost anything to join and travel? Our club, like other sport clubs, pays dues once each semester to help fund our travel expenses. We also receive some money from the University and do various fundraisers throughout the semester to keep our dues low. The only thing you have to pay for during tournaments is food and any merchandise you might want. 5) What is the time commitment like? We practice a few times a week and each practice is a couple of hours long. We usually travel 4-6 times/semester, leaving on Friday and coming home on Sunday evening. 6) What if I have class during practice or can't make every tournament? We understand that academics come first, and it is fine if you have class during part of practice—just tell the captains and come to practice when you get out of class. If you have to miss a tournament because of work or school, that is okay too. We prefer that you attend as many practices and tournaments as you can because they are fun, that's when you get to really know your teammates, and those are the times where you really learn the game, but we are flexible and can work with your schedule. 7) Anything else I should know? Please contact us with any additional questions you might have—we'd love to meet you! You can join at any point during either semester and can find our practice info under the 'Schedule' section of the website. We really hope you consider joining the Bettys because you get to play a competitive fun sport, meet new friends (including the Men's team, the Horrorzontals, and opponents from around the country), get in shape, travel, have leadership opportunities, and become a part of the Kansas Ultimate tradition.
