Betty News Fall 2008

November 5, 2008

Recently, Betty traveled to Northfield, MN for Exit 69 and Fayetteville, AR for the 18th Annual Harvest Moon.

At Exit 69, Betty had a solid showing on Saturday. We finished 2nd in our pool. On Sunday, we faced some nasty weather early in the morning, but still got the W in our first game. Unfortunately, we lost in semi-finals to Carleton A. It was a strong showing for a Kansas team with many new girls, and it was a great chance to play new teams that aren’t in our region.

Harvest Moon was a bit different this year than in past years for our team. Based on numbers, we decided to go for a 2nd bid and got it. We spilt our team X/Y, but we lost some of our numbers before the tourney leaving us with small teams. Luckily, Washington University Women’s Ultimate had a roster that they wanted to cut down, so each Betty team picked up 4 WUWU girls. Harvest is a costume tournament, so we made the most of it! One team was Betty evolution, while the other was Betty creationism during play on Saturday. As for Saturday night, we were a dance crew ready to bust our moves all over the dance floor (and that’s exactly what we did). Overall, it was a really fun tournament and everyone got significant playing time and an opportunity to learn more about their game.

Our next tourney is on November 15-16 in Columbia, MO. The tourney is called Missouri Loves Company, and it should be an excellent end of the fall season tournament with teams from all over the North and South competing.
